Project: Embassy Oil Spill, Ottawa

Client: Rasmussen Starr Ruddy

Staff of an Embassy in Ottawa became aware of a hydrocarbon contamination following completion of an environmental site assessment on a neighbouring property. The source of the contamination turned out to be a heating oil tank that had been leaking for years. Intera was retained by a law firm to review, recommend and implement preferred remedial actions to address the heating oil contamination of the Embassy property and on adjacent lands. Following a hydrogeologic site investigation, and review of remedial options, Intera arranged for the removal of the leaking tank, and for the construction, operation and maintenance of a groundwater and product recovery system. To date, over 10,000 litres of heating oil have been recovered and over 1,000,000 litres of contaminated groundwater have been treated using an oil water separator and a clay/carbon filter.
