Project: Impact of Fireworks on Lac Leamy, Québec

Client: National Capital Commission

For five nights each summer since 1996, the Casino du Lac-Leamy has hosted Les Grand Feux du Casino. Spectators are wowed by the sights and sounds of this fireworks competition made all the more exciting by the spectacular reflections in Lac-Leamy. The National Capital Commission hired Intera to conduct a multi-year baseline study to assess the historical and current environmental impacts of this event on the lake waters and sediments, and to conduct a sampling program to monitor and protect the quality of the aquatic habitat of the lake. The project is truly multidisciplinary in nature, involving hydrologic and ecological classification, and modelling to determine the fate of perchlorate in the aquatic environment.
