Intera provides a full range of professional services related to the complete life cycle of landfill sites and other waste management facilities. Our professional and engineering staff has expertise and experience in the siting, design, permitting, operation, closure and post-closure care of landfill sites. We have investigated and assessed proposed, existing and closed landfill sites for municipal, provincial and federal agencies as well as private sector clients.
An important aspect of our landfill work is the hydrogeologic assessment and mitigation of leachate and landfill gas migration from both operating and closed municipal landfill sites. We have provided sound and credible evaluations of the potential for landfill leachate and gas migration in both overburden and bedrock at landfill sites thought Ontario and elsewhere in Canada. Our senior staff has successfully resolved disputes over alleged landfill leachate and gas migration to the satisfaction of both regulatory agencies and landfill owners. We have been instrumental in the development of landfill monitoring guidelines in Ontario.
Today, an equally important component of our landfill services is the development of landfill closure plans for facilities that are nearing the end of their operating life. Intera has developed site closure plans and procedures and post-closure care and contingency plans for operating landfills in Ontario. We negotiate financial assurances that are reasonable and acceptable to both regulatory agencies and facility owners.
